Christoph Besold was a prominent legal scholar. Having studies at Tübingen he spent most of his academic life teaching there. His credentials as orthdox Lutheran were occasionally questioned -- and indeed later in life he clandestinely converted to Catholicism - -which became open after the Catholic victory at the Battle of Nördlingen. He moved to the Catholic university of Ingolstadt in 1636. Among his friends were Johannes Kepler and Wilhelm Schickard.
